| Wedding Party, Tortola, BVI |
The phone rings and my best friend announces, "I'm engaged" and then the big question, "Would you like to be my maid of honor and attend my destination wedding in Tortola, British Virgin Islands?" The year was 1988 and I was very excited to attend my first destination wedding and honored to be standing beside my best friend as her maid of honor!
My husband and I spent a week in sunny, tropical Tortola, British Virgin Islands as part of the wedding festivities and it was truly an amazing week. A week spent sailing in the Caribbean, exploring Virgin Gorda and some of the other British Virgin Islands, rehearsal dinner at the wonderful "Sugar Mill", the rehearsal after party at Bomba Shack on the beach and a beautiful wedding in a quaint historic church on top of a hill with a stunning view of the Caribbean. A week of relaxing in the sun, swimming in the Caribbean, and visiting a rum factory were all a part of the activities we shared as a part of "my best friend's wedding".

Growing up in a small town and sharing all of our life experiences from grade school through college, I don't think we considered a tropical get away wedding would be in our future. Time and career had taken the bride and her family away from our home town, and with her fiance and his family being from the East Coast, all seemed to be the perfect reasons to venture out and find a tropical destination in the Caribbean for the wedding.

Considering a destination wedding for you and your fiance? I encourage any couple looking for an intimate and personal wedding experience to explore the options for a destination wedding. Being able to spend a few days or a week with your closest family members and friends creates a memorable experience and a bond with your guests that will remain with all for a lifetime!
Please enjoy some photos and highlights of the week in Tortola, British Virgin Islands!

We were fortunate to stay at The Sugar Mill, a small and quaint hotel owned and operated by accomplished chefs and writers for Gourmet Magazine, Jinx and Jefferson Morgan.
