Looking for a way to add a summer twist to your favorite cocktail? One way is to infuse fruit into the alcohol of your choice. The idea for blueberries in gin was taken from the July issue of Martha Stewart Living, but the possibilities are endless.
For the blueberry infused gin and tonic add 1/2 cup fresh blueberries to 1 cup of gin. Let it sit at room temperature for 3 days. The blueberries will turn the gin a pretty light purple color. Discard the blueberries (which will be brown and unappealing) and store the gin in the refrigerator.
When serving, fill a glass with ice and fresh blueberries, adding your desired ratio of blueberry gin to tonic. You can also substitute sparkling lemonade for the tonic if you choose.
This would also work great with vodka. You can experiment with different kinds of fruit like raspberries or peaches. The flavor is much more fresh and fruity than flavored alcohol you can purchase at the liquor store. Hope you have fun experimenting with some fresh fruit infused summer cocktails!
